DAY 01

ARRIVE DELHI

On arrival in Delhi, you will be met by Splendour Holidays representative. Transfer to the hotel for checkin.

Delhi - The capital city of modern India has a rich historical past which also makes it the cultural capital of India. Nowhere has the tradition blended with modernity on a scale that is evident in Delhi. An amalgamation of the modern and the old-world charm, the city is dotted with age-old monuments that stand along side ultra modern hi-rise buildings. Delhi has been the seat of power for centuries.  Today, the old and the new city combine to present a harmonious whole offering to the traveler - elegant shops, broad avenues, sun-warmed elegant forts, mosques that were once stronghold of Mughal powers and the city's delightful vibrant bazaars.

Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 02

DELHI

Buffet breakfast at the hotel followed by a tour of the city. Delhi is a bustling metropolis. It is in fact two distinct cities, where the colourful bazaars and Mughal architecture of Old Delhi contrast with the formal splendour of Lutyen’s New Delhi.

The tour of Old Delhi takes you to the Jama Masjid, the largest and one of the most magnificent mosque in India. Drive past the magnificent Red Fort - a red sandstone marvel built on the banks of River Yamuna by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Also drive past Raj Ghat, built as a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

Drive through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk (Moonlight Square), opposite the Red Fort. Chandni Chowk is a market that bustles with activity all through the year. The area was laid out by Shahjahan's daughter, Jahanara. The water in a pool reflected the moonlight and then flowed into a channel through the avenue and hence the name Chandni Chowk. It is a crowded place and normally there is a maze of traffic that one has to negotiate almost every second.

Take an interesting Rickshaw Ride through Old Delhi. This ride is a truly memorable experience. Stroll through the bustling markets and bazaars and feel the pulse of India's capital city. It is an exhilarating experience to visit the narrow by-lanes on a tri-cycle. The ride presents an infinite opportunities of taking candid photographs of the bustling market life.

In New Delhi, visit the Qutab Minar, a 239ft sandstone tower, considered an Indo-Islamic architectural wonder of ancient India. The tower complex has a number of other important monuments including the Alai Darwaza gateway built in 1310 AD. Also visit the Humanyun’s tomb, one of the most spectacular Mughal buildings. Humanyun’s tomb was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1993. Built by Haji Begum, the widow of the second Mughal Emperor Humanyun, the mausoleum is known to the precursor of famous Taj Mahal. Built with a cost of one and a half million rupees, the monument heralded the construction of garden-tombs on the Indian subcontinent. Wrap your day with a drive through Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate & other important government buildings.

Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 03

DELHI – AGRA (250 KMS/ 4 HRS APPROX.)

After breakfast at the hotel, check out from the hotel and drive to Agra.

Agra is a medieval city situated on the banks of the river Yamuna. Shah Jahan known for his keen interest in architecture gave Agra its most prized monument, The Taj Mahal. Built in loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the mausoleum was completed in 1643 AD. Agra's dominant structure, the Agra Fort (sometimes called the Red Fort) was renovated and converted into a palace during Shah Jahan's time, and reworked extensively with marble and pietra dura inlay. Notable buildings in the fort include the Pearl Mosque, the Diwan-e-Am and Diwan-e-Khas (halls of public and private audience), Jehangir's Palace, Khaas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal (mirrored palace), and Musamman Burj.

On arrival, check in at the hotel.

Later in a day, visit Agra Fort.

The foundation of the fort was laid by Emperor Akbar in 1565 and continued till the time of Shahjahan. The high red stone monument stretches for around 2.5 Kms, dominating a bend in the river Yamuna northwest of the Taj Mahal. The palace is notable for its smooth blending of Hindu and central Asian architectural styles. The Diwan-i-Am (the hall of public audiences), the Diwan-i-Khas (the Hall of Private Audience), the Khas Palace (the private palace was used by emperor as a sleeping chamber), the Sheesh Mahal (palace of Mirrors), the Shah Jahani Mahal (Shahjahan’s Palace), Jahangiri Mahal (Jahangir’s Palace) and the Akbari Mahal (Akbar’s palace) are the fascinating palaces inside the fort. From the rear of Diwan-i-Khas, a door leads to Mussaman Burj, a two storey pavilion, where Shahjahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb in his old age. Also visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah- father of Queen Nur Jehan - a two-storied tomb bearing mosaics in inlaid semi-precious stones.

Reserve the best for the last. At sunset visit the famous Taj Mahal on decorated Tonga’s. Taj Mahal is an inimitable poem in white marble. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 16th century, the monument took 22 years to complete! It was built in the memory of Queen Mumtaz Mahal where her mortal remains were enshrined. Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the World.

Return back to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

AGRA – JAIPUR VIA FATEHPUR SIKRI (250 KMS/ 5 HRS APPROX.)

On the way to Jaipur, visit Fatehpur Sikri  for 45 minutes. Fatehpur Sikri is a World Heritage sight. This exquisite city was built by Akbar the Great in 1569. The city, built in red standstone, has forts, palaces and mosques. The city was abandoned 14 years after its creation due to political reasons. Must see are - The Diwan-i-am - a vast courtyard in which the emperor gave daily public audience, the Diwan-i-khas - a large quadrangle which hosted all the major functions of the Palace, the Pachisi court - Emperors private living quarter. Some other important buildings of this complex are Jodha Bhai’s Palace, Mariam’s Palace, Birbal’s Palace, Hawa Mahal and Panch Mahal. Jaipur: Built by Sawai Jai Singh, the city of Jaipur is amongst the first of India’s planned cities. The ancient heart of the Pink City still beats in its fairy tale palaces; rugged fortresses perched on barren hills and broad avenues. Jaipur has a timeless appeal in its colorful bazaars that delights for its Rajasthan handlooms and trinkets.  Beautifully laid out gardens and parks, attractive monuments and marvelous heritage hotels, once the residence of Maharajas, are worth admiration that makes a trip to the pink city a memorable one.
