DAY 2

CHENNAI TO MAHABALIPURAM (150 kms / 3.5hrs)

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and drive to Mahabalipuram. Enroute visiting Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram ~ popularly known as Kanchi, is one of the seven sacred cities of the Hindus dating back to 6th & 7th century.  The town has numerous temples and had universities of higher learnings.  The town is neatly divided into the worshippers of Shiv and Vishu.  Important temples to be visited are Kamakshi Temple of 14th century, Kailasanatha Temple, Ekambareshvara Temple, Vaikuntha Perumal Temple, Varadaraja Temple to name a few.

Proceed further to Mahabalipuram. On arrival, check in at the hotel.

DAY 3

MAHABALIPURAM TO PONDICHERRY (90kms / 02hrs)

After breakfast, take a sightseeing tour visiting the 5 rathas in Mahabalipuram.

Mahabalipuram lies on the Coromandel Coast, which faces the Bay of Bengal. This is an elegant place to watch which a well established seaport was during the 7th and 10th centuries of the Pallava dynasty. This was the second capital of the Pallavas who ruled Kanchipuram. Formerly, Mahabalipuram was known and called as Mahabalipuram. he former name of this place ‘Mahabalipuram’ has a history. A very rude cruel king Mahabali reined this place and in a fierce battle Lord Vishnu killed king Mahabali and the place was named after the dead King.

Mahabalipuram also known as Mamallapuram has a history dating back to the 7th century.  The spectacular Shore Temple perched dramatically on a promontory by the sea.  Not to be missed in the Bhagiratha’s Penance or the Descent of the Ganges wherein the panel depicts in great detail the story of the sacred Ganges’s descent from the sky.  The area is also strewn with a number of temples like Olakkanatha Temple, Krishna mandapa, Mahishasuramardini Temple, and many more.   

Later in the afternoon, check out from the hotel and drive to Pondicherry. On arrival, transfer to the hotel for checkin.

Later in the evening, walk on ‘Promenade’

Pondicherry ~ a seaside resort with Old French style buildings, churches and museums, tree-lined boulevards along the seashore where tourist attractions lie in its ambience. The laidback Township, pristine beach and the palm trees swaying in breeze bring a slice of serenity. The only sound you can hear is the waves crashing against the rocks and the chirping of the birds. Pondicherry is more famous because of its relation with Sri Aurobindo, which is the biggest of all tourist attractions in Pondicherry. Sri Aurobindo selected this peaceful and harmonious place to make his abode in the second decade of 20th century and remained there until his death.

PONDICHERRY TO THANJORE (240kms / 05 hrs)

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and drive to Thanjore visiting temples ~ Chidambaram & Gangaikondacholapuram. Also visit Darsuram.

DAY 5

THANJORE TO MADURAI VIA TRICHY (190kms / 4.5hrs)

After breakfast, leave for Madurai by surface. Enroute visit Trichy.

Visit Trichy's Rock Fort Temple, a spectacular monument perched on a massive sand-coloured rock to a height of more than 80m, its irregular sides smoothed by wind and rain. This temple was built by Pallavas as a small cave temple, but the Nayak's grasped the site's potential as a fort. The Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam is among the most revered shrines to Vishnu in south India and the largest and liveliest temple complex in India. Enclosed by seven rectangular walled courtyards, the temple has 21 gopurams; it stands on an island defined by a tributary of the River Kauvery.

Drive further to Madurai.

Evening, proceed for a tour of Madura visiting the Meenakshi temple.

MADURAI – PARIYAR (160kms / 4.5hrs)

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Periyar. On arrival in Periyar. You will be transferred to the hotel. Check in at the hotel.

Thekkady, India 's largest wildlife sanctuary is a dream destination for any tourist visiting India . The 120 years old 'Surki' dam built across Peryiar, Poorna in Vedic parlance, is a major tourist attraction. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 777 Sq.Kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25 Sq.Kms. The Country's sole Tiger reserve, Thekkady, with its bountiful treasures of tropical flora and fauna is the ultimate reservoir of many an endangered species and a rich tribal culture. Thekkady is a pleasant heaven on earth for those who love nature in its wild manifestations.

Later in the evening proceed for the boat ride in Periyar.

Situated on the Vembanad Lake, in this small water world you'll come across plenty of traditional country crafts, boats and canoes which will take you into the heart of the scenic lake.

DAY 08

KUMARAKOM ~ ALLEPPEY (HOUSEBOAT) (40 Kms – 1.5hrs)

Morning- After breakfast, you will be transferred to a Houseboat in Alleppey for your backwater cruise. Sail along the tranquil backwaters and enjoy the village scenes along the canals. All meals will be served on board the houseboat. Overnight stay on the HouseBoat (air -conditioned).

Houseboat - popularly known as 'Kettuvallam', literally mean ‘stitched boat'. They are 70 foot long, 30 tones capacity, made with wooden planks joined and stitched together with Coconut ropes and painted with cashew nut oil outside. The Kettuvallam was converted to houseboat and designed for comfortable cruise and over night stay. The boat has one and two bath-attached rooms with modern comforts, a living cum dining room and a kitchen. Eco-friendly materials are used in constructing the boats. A cook and two-member crew would be there to attend you. The boat moves through the backwaters with village tours and at night is anchored at a beautiful part of the lake.

ALLEPPEY TO KOVALAM (Approx. 180 Kms – 5hrs)

After breakfast check out form the hotel and  transfer to Kovalam. Located around 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kovalam is a beach town on the Arabian Sea in Kerala. Kovalam has three crescent shaped beaches separated by rocky outcroppings. The shallow waters stretching for hundreds of metres are ideal for swimming.

The beaches have steep palm covered headlands and are lined with shops that offer all kinds of goods and services. Kovalam was among the most prominent tourist spots in India during the hippy era. It still has a high status among tourists, who arrive mostly from Europe and Israel. Kovalam is finding a new significance in the light of several Ayurvedic salons, and recuperation and regeneration resorts which provide a wide variety of Ayurvedic treatments for tourists.

DAY 11

KOVALAM - COCHIN

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Cochin. On arrival check in at the hotel.

Half day sightseeing tour of Cochin includes St. Francis Church, which is the oldest European church on Indian soil. Thereafter, visit The Jewish Synagogue which dates back to the 17th century and has pretty patterned floor tiles that were brought in from China. The Synagogue and Jewish Town in Mattancherry is home to the 20 odd Jews who still live in India, mostly old timers, they chose to stay on even after the creation of Israel. Lastly, visit the Chinese fishing nets resting on their cantilevered stands along the waters. The technique came from Kubla Khan’s court and till date serves the purpose for catching fresh water fish in large quantities.

After city tour, return to the hotel.

Evening enjoy Kathakali Dance Show (optional)

Kathakali is a highly stylized classical Indian dance drama noted for its attractive make-up of characters, their elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's present day state of Kerala during the 17th century AD and has been updated over the years with improved looks.

COCHIN – NAGARHOLE (Approx. 323 kms / 08 HRS)

After breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Nagarhole National Park. On arrival check in at the hotel.

Nagarhole National Park. : West of the Kabini River is the 643-sq-km wildlife sanctuary of Nagarhole National Park, pronounced nag-ar-hole-eh. The lush forests here are home to around 60 tigers, as well as leopards, elephants, gaurs, muntjacs (barking deer), wild dogs, bonnet macaques and common langurs; animal sightings are more common here than in Bandipur.

On arrival at Mysore you will visit Mysore palace.

Mysore Palace: The Palace of Mysore is a palace situated in the city of Mysore in southern India. It is the official residence of the Wodeyar- the erstwhile royal family of Mysore, and also houses two durbar halls (ceremonial meeting hall of the royal court). Mysore has a number of historic palaces, and is commonly described as the City of Palaces. However, the term "Mysore Palace" specifically refers to one within the old fort. The palace was commissioned in 1897, and its construction was completed in 1912. It is now one of the most famous tourist attractions in Mysore. Although tourists are allowed to visit the palace, they are not allowed to take photographs inside the palace.

Later, in the evening visit Brindavan Gardens lies adjoining the Krishnarajasagara dam (KRS Dam) which is built across the river Kaveri. A dam at the length of 8600 ft. and height of 130 ft. above the river bed was built below the confluence of the three rivers – Cauvery, Hemavathi and Lakshmanateertha in 1924
