ARRIVE DELHI

On arrival in Delhi, you will be met by Splendour Holidays Representative and transfer to the hotel for checkin.

DAY 02

DELHI

After breakfast, proceed for a tour of Delhi, a bustling metropolis which is in fact really two distinct cities – the colourful bazaars and Mughal architecture of Old Delhi contrasting with the formal splendour of Lutyen’s New Delhi.

New Delhi ~ Visit the Qutab Minar - the 239ft sandstone tower is an Indo-Islamic architectural wonder of ancient India. The complex has a number of other important monuments- the gateway built in 1310, also visit the Humanyun’s tomb - One of the most spectacular Mughal buildings, Humanyun’s tomb was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1993. Built by Haji Begum, the widow of Humanyun’s, the second Mughal Emperor, the mausoleum is known to the precursor of world famous Taj Mahal. Built with a cost of one and a half million rupees, the monument heralded the construction of garden-tombs on the Indian subcontinent & lastly drives through Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate & other important government buildings.

Later proceed to Old Delhi ~ Visit the Jama Masjid - Built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, the Jama Masjid is the largest and one of the most magnificent mosques in India, drive past the Red Fort built by the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648, visit Raj Ghat ~ the memorial built for Mahatma Gandhi.

DAY 03

DAY 04

JAIPUR

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

Leave for the sightseeing of Jaipur.

Steeped in history and culture, this city is known for its magnificent Palaces and forts; broad avenues and spacious gardens. Jaipur with its romantic charm takes you to an epoch of royalty and tradition.

Proceed to visit AMBER FORT, the ancient capital of the Rajput rulers, perched atop the hill overlooking a lake.

Enroute, stop for photography, the tapering Hawa Mahal, or "Palace of Winds" which was built in 1799 to enable the ladies of the royal household to watch street processions while remaining in a strict state of purdah. Its five-storey facade, decked with no less than 593 finely screened windows and balconies, makes the building seem far larger than it really is.

Upon arrival at Amber, ascend to this hilltop fort in Maharaja style by decorated Elephant.

By seeing the majestic ramparts of the Fort, which surround the palace, one can imagine the power of the character. Visit the beautiful complex of palaces including inlaid mirror palace, halls, pavilions, gardens and the famors Kali temple.

Decend down from the fort and return back to the city.

In the afternoon leave for sightseeing  of Jaipur.

Visit THE CITY PALACE - the Royal residence of Maharajaha built in Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, Hawa Mahal" the Palace of Wind & the Observatory of the 18th century.

Visit the OBSERVATORY, begun by Jai Singh.

The most striking instrument is the sundial with its 27m high gnomon. The shadow that casts moves up to 4m an hour.

DAY 05

JAIPUR - AGRA VIA FATEHPUR ( 250kms/ 5hrs approx.)

After breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Agra

Enroute visit “Fatehpur Sikri’ (45 min) ~ World Heritage Site

Fatehpur Sikri - This exquisite city was built by Akbar the Great in 1569, in red sandstone; with its forts, palaces and mosques. The city was abandoned 14 years after its creation due to political reasons. Must see are - The Diwan-i-am - a vast courtyard in which the emperor gave daily public audience; Diwan-i-khas - a large quadrangle which contained all the major functions of the Palace, Pachisi court, the Emperors private living quarter, Jodha Bhai’s Palace, Mariam’s Palace, Birbal’s Palace, Hawa Mahal and Panch Mahal are some of the important buildings of this residential complex. The Friday Mosque and the exquisite tomb of Sheik Salim Chisti are in the religious grounds set aside in a separate enclosure adjacent to the secular buildings.

Drive further to Agra

At sunset, visit the Taj Mahal by Tonga ride ~ colorful horse carriages to take in its sublime beauty at the first rays of the sun.

Taj Mahal - the inimitable poem in white marble. Built over a period of 22 years, by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 16th century, for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains, it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

If time permits, also visit the Agra Fort

Agra Fort ~ built by three Mughal Emperors starting from Akbar the Great in 1565 AD, which is a masterpiece of design and construction. Within the fort are a number of exquisite buildings including the Moti Masjid, Jahangir's Palace, Khaas Mahal and the Sheesh Mahal, Diwane-i-Am, Diwane-i-Khas and Musamman Burj where Emperor Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal Emperor died a prisoner.

Orchha (or Urchha) is a town in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The town was established by Maharaja Rudra Pratap Singh in 1501, as the seat of an eponymous former princely state of central India, in the Bundelkhand region. Orchha lies on the Betwa River, 80 km from Tikamgarh & 15 km from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

KHAJURAHO – (5hrs approx.) JHANSI – TRAIN TO VARANASI (Train details: Dep 10.30pm – Arr. 10.50am)

Breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit the 1000 year old Eastern and Western Temples of Khajuraho

The magnificent group of temples at Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site were built between 9th & 10th centuries by the Chandela dynasty.  Over 800 sculptures cover one of the 25 temples, depicting gods and goddesses, beasts and warriors, sensuous maidens, dancers, musicians and of course, the erotic scenes for which the Khajuraho temples are famous for.

DAY 08

ARRIVE VARANASI

Arrive Varanasi and transfer to the hotel for check in

Varanasi has been known as ‘ the City of Light’ and situated on the west bank of the Ganges and is India’s holiest Hindu city with a spiritual and religious legacy that goes back nearly 3000 years. Although there are over 700 temples in Varanasi, none are more sacred than the river Ganges itself.  The Ganges is worshipped as a living goddess with the power to cleanse all earthly sins.  The daily prayers (aarti) at dawn and dusk, serve as a salutations to the river.  Oil lamps are offered and bells rung while sacred mantras are chanted.

Afternoon, proceed to enjoy the sightseeing tour of Varanasi visiting The Bharat Mata temple north-west of Godaulia is a modern shrine, inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. The Tulsi Manas temple, though, is open to all communities. Its white marble walls have the verses of Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas inscribed on them.

DAY 09

VARANASI – TRAIN TO DELHI (Train details: Dep 05.47pm – Arr. 07.20am)

Early morning, take a boat ride in River Ganges.  

Return back to the hotel for breakfast

Later proceed for a city tour visiting the ghats & temples of Varanasi.

Later in a day, proceed for a half day excursion tour of Sarnath where Lord Buddha revealed his doctrine and founded his monastic community. It is at a distance of about ten kilometers from the sacred Varanasi. One can feel the famous Buddhist chanting, “Buddham Sharanam Gachhami” in the air of Sarnath. Buddha considered four places to be sacred for his followers.

Later in time, you will be transferred to the railway station for your train to Delhi

DAY 10

ARRIVE DELHI – FLY AURANGABAD VIA MUMBAI

Arrive Delhi railway station and transferred to the Delhi airport for your flight to Aurangabad via Mumbai

On arrival at the Aurangabad airport, you will be met and assisted by our representative and transferred to the hotel for check in

Aurangabad: Malik Ambar, the Prime Minister of Murtaza Nizam Shah II, founded the city of Aurangabad in 1610 A.D, on the site of a village, Khirki. When Fateh Khan, Malik Ambar's son succeeded the throne in 1626, he named the city 'Fatehpur'. In 1653, when Aurangzeb became the Viceroy of the Deccan, he made it his capital, and renamed it Aurangabad. Maurya rule heralded the advent of Buddhism in the state of Maharashtra. The earliest caves at Ajanta and Pithalkora were excavated in the 2nd century BC, during the Satvahana era. Paithan, then known as Pratishthana, was an important trade centre at the time Aurangabad, 400 kms from Mumbai, is linked by air too. Spectacular rock cut caves and cave paintings exist at two nearby places, Ajanta and Ellora.

DAY 11

AURANGABAD - TRAIN TO MUMBAI (Train details: Dep 09.30pm Arr. 05.40am)

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit the Ajanta and Ellora caves and visit the Grishneshwar Temple in Daultabad.

Ellora, one of the highly visited World heritage sites of India. It houses 34 monasteries and temples with some exclusive uninterrupted sequence of monuments that date back from 600 to 1000 AD. The temples of Ellora are dedicated to Brahmanism, Jainism, and Buddhism. A particular interest are the architectural marvel of the monolithic Kailasa Temple, the Buddhist Vishvakarma Chaitya and Vihara, the famous Jain cave number 32 famous for a magnificent Yakshi statue and ceiling paintings. It also has some of the excellent stonework depicting the legends related to Lord Shiva.

Ellora: The Ellora caves, 34 in number, are carved into the sides of a basaltic hill, 30 kms from Aurangabad. The finest specimens of cave - temple architecture, they house elaborate facades and exquisitely adorned interiors. These structures representing the three faiths of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, were carved during the 350 AD to 700 AD period. The 12 caves to the south are Buddhist, the 17 in the centre dedicated to Hinduism, and the 5 caves to the north are Jain. (Note: The Ajanta Caves are closed to public on all Monday and Ellora caves on Tuesday.)
